【Customer Review for Pumpkin】KD-C0660 Toyota Prius 8 Inch 2 Din Android 4.4 Head Unit

This Android 4.4 head unit (KD-C0660) is awesome! If you’re on the fence or are worried about quality, don’t. I’ve been using it for several months and it works great. All the features work as advertised. It works with my steering wheel controls, and also work flawlessly with the backup camera that I purchased separately.

Pros:

  • Nice, large touchscreen, easy to read during the daytime and at night.
  • All features work as advertised.
  • Easy to download new Android apps from the Google Play Store, directly on the Android 4.4 head unit.
  • Works with steering wheel controls.
  • Works great with backup camera.
  • Works great with OBD II Bluetooth dongle and the Torque app – allows you to read all kinds of information about your engine that you can’t normally see. (RPMs for the gas and electric engines, engine coolant temperature, timing advance, etc.)

Cons:

  • If you download a separate app for playing music, it’s possible to end up playing that app and the stock music/radio app at the same time. This can be a problem when using steering wheel controls, as they don’t work with the third party apps, but rather than end up activating the stock app such that both apps are playing at once. I usually make sure this doesn’t happen by switching to Bluetooth.
  • Brightness – turning on headlights only dims the display very slightly, which is perfect if you’re driving in the rain. But, if you’re driving at night, the display is still way too bright. It would be nice if the unit automatically turned the brightness all the way down, but as it’s now you have to do it in the settings.

Overall:

None of these cons were a very big deal to me, and all have solutions, so I went ahead and gave five stars. I really love this unit and all of its features, and highly recommend it. :)

【Customer Review for Pumpkin】KD-C1107 BMW E46 Series 7 Inch 1 Din Android 4.4 Head Unit

I had never heard of this unit before and found it on a random search through Amazon. I figured for the price and it was worth a shot, since the Dynavin is still a good bit more expensive… I am very impressed by it!

  • Installation

Installation was silly easy, I got it done in a couple of hours and that was because I wanted to hide wires for the GPS antenna and Bluetooth microphone. If you’re less picky than me, you could get it done in a half hour.

  • Screen, buttons and knobs

The buttons and knobs are very well built, the finish is slightly more glossy than the stock business radio od the E46, though I suspect part of that is due to aging of the stock materials. The screen is bright and clear and the touchscreen is very responsive, the colors and sharpness are great.

  • Audio quality

I was worried that the audio quality would be worse than the stock CD player, but it’s definitely not when using equal mediums (CDs, iPod, radio, etc). But when streaming Bluetooth, it’s not the best. Most people probably wouldn’t notice the difference (my friends didn’t), but if you’re like me and like clear audio, you’ll want to stick to CDs, SD cards or an iPod.

  • GPS navigation system

I love the navigation which displays the speed limit of the road you’re on as well as warning you if you’re speeding. It can also display any nearby gas stations, hotels and many other things and lets you choose which one you can see or not see.

  • App installation

The unit comes with a .apk installer app so that you can install any app from the Google Play Store from an SD card, or anywhere else you could find a .apk app. It also has the Google Play Store app installed on it, so if you use your phone as a mobile hotspot for the on-board WiFi or use a 3G data card in your unit, you can download apps directly from the store. The included apps are pretty good. My only gripe with the pre-installed music player is that there is no shuffle button, that seems like a huge oversight, otherwise it works well and the equalizer presets are pretty good, as in the custom mapping option that it gives you.

  • Conclusion
All in all, I’m very happy with this unit and would highly recommend it to anyone. It’s made the interior of my E46 feel much more updated and new. In fact, my girlfriend just bought a new Ford with the “My Ford Touch” option and she agrees that the nav screen in my E46 is better.

This could end up being a 5-star product if I can get some of the idiosyncrasies ironed out.

  • Pros:
First off: It’s installed and fired up beautifully, no problems at all. The wires are all ISO color-coded, and I made no mistakes connecting everything (Huzzah!). All of the applications worked right first time —-radio, GPS, Bluetooth hands-free, etc. Oh and BTW, the GPS is amazing at signal acquisition. I’m used to Garmin taking a while to get a position, especially after sitting unpowered for some days. But this Android 4.4 unit found satellites and got a position after only a minute or so, even after being shipped across 10 time zones! And it picks up a good GPS constellation even under my carport.
  • Cons:
My current complaints are few and minor: the audio has a hiss in it, and I see that Pumpkin has a power filter (free) to solve this issue. The GPS does not seem to have a “north up” setting, which I much prefer over “track up”. Also, the existing GPS software has map colors that are very poorly chosen. It’s almost impossible to see secondary roads, and I may have to change that software before all is said and done.
The physical unit is fairly large, around 4″ vertical dimension, and it was a very snug squeeze in my Ford Ranger console —- but it worked.
The Android system is fairly conventional, but with all the apps and configurations, it’s sometimes puzzling as to where to find a particular setting. Time will iron this out. Nice to have “home” buttons both on the touch screen and the push-buttons.
  • Overall
I’m overall quite pleased, ESPECIALLY for the price. I expect to have a lot of fun with this.
