Although there are lots of aftermarket Android head units that are wired to accept remote inputs, they don’t know how to interpret the commands from all of the different OEM steering wheel control setups out there. In order to allow a head unit to understand those control inputs, you need an adapter to act as middleman.

adapter

There are a couple of companies that make these adapters, and each one takes a slightly different approach. These manufacturers offer pretty good coverage, though, so you should be able to find a compatible adapter for basically any car that has steering wheel controls.
Some steering wheel control adapters are designed to work with a specific subset of head units, which is where SWI-JS, SWI-JACK, and SWI-X come into play. Some car stereo control adapters are specifically designed to work with either SWI-JS or SWI-JACK head units, so you can choose the correct adapter by looking at that information. In some cases, you may also need a separate CAN adapter that sits in between the steering wheel controls and the adapter. On the other hand, some adapters are universal in nature, in which case they can be used with virtually any head unit that accepts remote, regardless of which type of SWI it is.

  • Shipping to the US was very fast relative to the estimated time – ordered on 9/4/2015 and received on 9/8/2015. Purchased this for a 2005 Toyota Camry and it works great. The item (LM-W0674functions exactly as expected and the GPS (in Delaware) appears to work very well. Bluetooth pairs easily with my phone and operation of calls through the head unit is straightforward. Additionally, the wiring harness matches exactly to my factory wiring, so it’s simply plug-and-play. I purchased a Scosche Dash Kit to fill in the gaps because the item sits a bit further back and doesn’t encompass the entire width of the stock stereo. All in all, I’m very pleased with the purchase.

  • Extremely happy with this purchase. It arrived much sooner than expected and it fits perfectlyin my 2001 Toyota Rav 4 without a dash kit. It’s set up to work with Apple products, but itworks with my Android phone via Bluetooth for music and phone calls. It was really easy to install – plug and play indeed. It comes with a remote and the touch screen is bright and vivid and easy to navigate. Haven’t tried the GPS too much yet, but so far it all works great. Overall – a great product and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Also a great experience with the seller – fast and courteous, answered my questions and the item arrived exactly as described with all the cords and necessary parts.

  • The head unit was well labeled and the wiring harness fit my Toyota FJ Cruiser perfectly. This not being my first car audio install, I had an easy time installing it, even with having to drill 2 holes in the mounting case to accommodate the Toyota’s mounting brackets. The biggest challenge was figuring out how to use the GPS which was simplified by downloading the instructions for the iGo-8 GPS software (included on a 4 GB micro SD card) for free. An adequate multimedia/ GPS receiver elevated to GREAT when factoring in the low price.
